About me

In my family, love is food. I grew up with food at the forefront of every family outing, and cooking as much a part of every day life as sleeping. My life still revolves around the kitchen in so many ways.

The kitchen I grew up in.
As a recent college graduate, I'm just starting to establish my own dietary preferences, including an emphasis on vegetables over meat, and a love of dessert. Every meal I cook is an adventure--new ingredients, new pots/pan, new stove or new recipe.

Spreading the food love.
Picking pounds of fresh blackberries over the summer.
I also love to exercise. Two years ago, I was 165 pounds with high blood pressure and low energy. Burned out, I had left college athletics but forgot to change my eating habits. Eventually, I realized I could do what I wanted with my life--I didn't have to be the chubby one forever.

With the dream of returning to the rowing team as a lightweight, I lost 30 pounds over the course of a year. I continued to improve my fitness, and after a long journey led the lightweight varsity boat to a closely contested second place national finish--a pretty big change from a couch potato.

Preparing for practice.
I have lots of exciting adventures ahead: I'm just got married, and am working on personal training certification, learning to coach rowing, continuing to train, and relearning how to eat. Follow me as I celebrate successes and navigate failures!

My handsome photographer.

  2. I wasn't sure where else to post this, so I guess I'll post it here: for some reason, whatever font you've chosen for the blog is incredibly difficult to read! it makes all the lowercase "e"s look like "c"s, among other offenses!
